Police say a Dunkin Donuts customer apparently needed a cup of coffee so badly he hurled a bag of coffee beans at a worker, hitting her squarely in the back.

“It hurt- it was like stunning,” says the employee Susan Sciarabba.  “I turned around and there’s a pound of dark roast coffee flying across the room.”

Leslie Buck, Designer of Iconic Coffee Cup, Dies at 87

It was for decades the most enduring piece of ephemera in New York City and is still among the most recognizable. Trim, blue and white, it fits neatly in the hand, sized so its contents can be downed in a New York minute. It is as vivid an emblem of the city as the Statue of Liberty, beloved of property masters who need to evoke Gotham at a glance in films and on television.

From the New York Times
It is, of course, the Anthora, the cardboard cup of Grecian design that has held New Yorkers’ coffee securely for nearly half a century. Introduced in the 1960s, the Anthora was long made by the hundreds of millions annually, nearly every cup destined for the New York area.

A pop-cultural totem, the Anthora has been enshrined in museums; its likeness has adorned tourist memorabilia like T-shirts and ceramic mugs. Like many once-celebrated artifacts, though, the cup may now be endangered, the victim of urban gentrification.  New York Times

A Man stole five jars of coffee in an act of revenge at being accused of a theft he had not committed.
Lee Tobin’s temper got the better of him after he was accused with a theft from the One Stop shop, in the town’s Wynyard Road, magistrates heard.
Alan Davison, prosecuting at Hartlepool Magistrates Court, said: “Mr Tobin was suspected of acting suspiciously by a member of staff, who challenged him and asked to see his bag.
“He emptied it and the bag was searched, but nothing was found.
“But later, CCTV footage was reviewed and staff saw him leave with six
jars of coffee which he hadn’t paid for.”
In police interview, Tobin, 29, said he was “upset and frustrated at having been searched and in temper took the items as a form of revenge” and that he sold the coffee for £5, Mr Davison added.
Tobin, of Campbell Road, Hartlepool, admitted committing the theft on May 10.

Another case of coffee missiles.. this time in Texas. A 29 year old man has been robbing convenience stores by hurling his payed for coffee at the cashier then stealing the money from the open register. This was recently a problem in both Pennsylvania and New York. Police have not apprehended this character yet, but apparently know who it is because they know his age.

Coffee is indeed a popular weapon in N. Carolina, following the coffee road rage episodes another coffee weapon has resurfaced, poison. A woman in N. Carolina has been charged and jailed for trying to kill a man the she was caring for by poisoning his coffee.

The man she tried to poison doesn’t believe she would do such a thing to him.
“She had no reason to poison me, no reason,” he said.
“I can depend on her, as far as that goes,” he said. “Debbie’s a good person.”
