When it comes to professional headshots, an outdoor portrait is a high-risk, high-reward venture. High-risk because people are often milling about. Light is constantly changing. Even a passing truck can wreck the white balance of the scene. And, of course, there’s the ever-present threat of wind. It’s astonishing what a gentle breeze can do when you want a strand of hair to behave just so. As a corporate headshot photographer, I hope one day to convince an entire team to do outdoor headshot photography in one location using the same table, so that together we can explore the countless hundreds of expressions that can be discovered by simply hanging out, human to human.
