Candid Family Photography: Grandma and Her Girls

In the long ago, there was a young woman who played tennis with John Newcomb. Over time, she became a force of nature, balancing varied interests with a family and children.

Her kids grew up, fell in love, and had children of their own. During a recent session photographing Grandma and Her Girls, I was reminded once again of the magic in unscripted moments. While posed shots have their place in a family photo session, I’ve decided to embrace an 80/20 rule, maybe even a 90/10 rule going forward—prioritizing candid moments over the staged ones.

Yes, it’s messy, chaotic even. Arms and legs go every which way, and it can be a challenge. But the rewards? They’re more than worth it. View the images below, and I hope you agree.

If you’re looking to capture unscripted moments that tell a part of your family story, let’s connect.

I’m ready to roll.
