The light at Carmel Beach was soft, and the sky touched the line where the sand met the sea. Two friends, seniors on the edge of leaving home, were ready to explore new horizons. They hugged. They laughed. And they ran through the surf, splashing water and shouting. They climbed the twisted trees by the shore. Photographing them, I relived the joy and anticipation of a future that lies just beyond the waves.
