A debut novelist needs time, a great editor, persistence, and—now more than ever—a thoughtful visual presence. The words may come first, but readers also want to know the person behind the story. Portraits and headshots are an important part of that connection, providing the images authors need for dust jackets, speaking engagements, social media, and the many ways they say hello to the world. Russell Ferretti-Hoyle hired me to create portraits that felt warm and personal, reflecting his life as a writer, his tattoos, and his connection to downtown Campbell, California, the place he calls home.
