Leadership Coach Headshots

Meet Stacy Kuehnis, a global executive leadership coach in the Bay Area. Stacy helps teams and leaders clarify their purpose and core values, enabling them to develop greater executive presence and influence in their professional and personal lives. Stacy recently hired me for brand and website photography. One of the challenges (and joys) of headshot photography is matching technique with the subject’s unique personality. In this case, we blended multiple lights, backdrops, and wardrobes to capture a set of headshots and business portraits that convey Stacy’s style, confidence, humility, and curiosity. Professional Headshots: Six-in-One, 6/1

There’s no one right way to photograph a subject, but there are always better and worse ways of capturing a professional headshot. I start by asking basic questions. Spending time, even if only briefly, listening to answers and observing body language helps me navigate endless choices on location and during post production. Here are a few of my kick starters:

—Who are you?
—What’s the objective?
—What does success look like?
—Why are we doing this?

Those questions are just as effective in other professions as they are in headshot photography.

Bay Area Home Family Photography

Living room or family room, indoors or out, morning or night, it doesn’t really matter. Family is where you happen to be. When you’re together, that’s enough for a family photographer to capture scripted and unscripted moments. And, yes, behind every happy family is a much happier dog just waiting to fetch a piece of the action.

Downtown senior portrait session

When it comes to senior portraits, I thrill at the request, “Let’s do something different.” This graduate is ready to set foot on an unconventional path and explore the world beyond Chico, beyond California, and beyond the US entire. Although we started safely enough at the Rose Garden in San Jose, we quickly found ourselves in downtown San Jose, dodging trains and exploring construction zones. We discovered a killer spot behind Hapas Brewery, with corrugated metal and wood grain. Ends up that gritty urban scenes are perfect for senior photoshoots. Candid Family Photography session

It started simply enough. I saw tall grass gone to seed on my street. Backlit no less. I was rapt, I savored it, knowing full well I would use it somehow. In the heart of San Jose, I’d found a rural scene, a stone’s throw from Walgreens, Dunn Edwards, and Yuki Sushi. My lovely neighbors accommodate my whims. Can I borrow your daughters, I asked. Adding: wearing something that suggests farm or prairie life. You bet, the parents said. The girls pranced out of the house and frolicked in the grass, not one, not two, but all three of them, dad included, an unexpected treat. In less than five minutes, we had a perfectly unscripted family photography micro session.
